PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging element suppressing image quality deterioration even if vertical transfer is performed in an effective pixel period, and also to provide a driving method thereof. SOLUTION: A CCD type solid-state imaging element 10 is provided with: a light receiving sensor 11; a vertical transfer register 13; a horizontal transfer register 14; and a signal processing part 20. The signal processing part vertically transfers signal charges accumulated in the vertical transfer register, and performs signal processing for reducing signal charges outputted through the horizontal transfer register, from signal charges read from the light receiving sensor in the n-th (1≤n≤N, N: the number of fields) time, and outputted through the vertical transfer register and the horizontal transfer register before reading from the light receiving sensor.
