PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively producing a hot-rolled steel sheet excellent in workability and machinability without using Pb. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the hot-rolled steel sheet, the steel which has component composition containing, by mass, 0.02-0.08% C,≤0.05% Si,≤0.80% Mn,≤0.020% P,≤0.060% Al, 0.008-0.015% S, 0.03-0.10% Cu and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, is heated at the temperature of <1,200°C, then is hot-rolled at the finish-rolling completed temperature of (Ar<SB>3</SB>transforming point to 900°C), and is wound at the winding temperature of 550 to 650°C.
