<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce image degradation and restrictions on re-editing when using a box function. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading unit 1 reads an image from a document to generate base image data 21. A control unit 7 identifies reading condition settings for image reading which are specified by a user. An information saving unit 5 saves the base image data 21 and the reading condition settings (editing information 22) in association with each other as saved-image information 31. The control unit 7 identifies output condition settings for image output which are specified by the user when outputting the base image data 21. The control unit 7 determines editing contents from the reading condition settings for the base image data 21 and the output condition settings. An image editing unit 6 edits the base image data 21 in accordance with the determined editing contents to generate output image data.
