A hydroisomerization catalyst characterized by comprising nanocrystals which have a pore structure comprising a 10-membered ring or 8-membered ring and in which the ratio of the pore volume to the outer surface area ([pore volume]/[outer surface area]) is 2.0×10-4 to 8.0×10-4 mL/m2. The catalyst is further characterized by being obtained by burning a catalyst composition which comprises: either an ion-exchanged molecular sieve obtained by subjecting a molecular sieve having an organic template to ion exchange in a solution containing a cation species or a burning product obtained by burning the ion-exchanged molecular sieve; and at least one metal deposited on the ion-exchanged molecular sieve or burning product and selected from the group consisting of the metals belonging to Groups 8 to 10 of the periodic table, molybdenum, and tungsten.
