PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: repeat accuracy of a contact type position detecting switch which has been used for edge detection of the tool of a machine tool and abrasion detection was on a level of 5-1μm, however, it has been difficult in recent years to cope with increasing requirements for accuracy of a sub-micron level when machining components, and the position detecting switch having an improved dustproof and waterproof function is required since it is installed and used in bad environments. SOLUTION: A contact signal detecting circuit is installed in the contact type position detecting switch, and repeat accuracy can be improved and a contact life can be extended thereby. Performance can reach a sub-micron level by increasing the capacity of a contact part as a heat dissipating countermeasure although a body shape becomes large to a certain extend, and the performance can be substantially enhanced. The position detecting switch used in the bad environments can prevent invasion of chips, coolants, and polishing powder dust, which has been conventionally difficult to prevent, by using high pressure air to improve the waterproof function.
