PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, by which escitalopram can efficiently be purified. SOLUTION: Provided is the method for reducing the content of escitalopram N-oxide in the free escitalopram base or its salt, characterized by dissolving the free escitalopram base in diethyl ether and removing the escitalopram N-oxide as a solid substance.
