PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing device which is capable of aligning sheets in an excellent state, and miniaturized. SOLUTION: The paper sheet processing device aligns paper sheets conveyed to a conveying area. A paddle 24 is provided in the conveying area, and conveys the paper sheets to a stopper to align the paper sheets. A torque limiter 54 controls the conveying force of the paddle 24. A paddle evacuation mechanism 55 consists of a solenoid 56, and turns the paddle 24 in the direction of an arrow F and evacuates it upwardly from the conveying area when the paper sheets are conveyed to the conveying area.
