<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device with a structure to make enter illumination light from the side end face of a light guide plate arranged on the back side of a display panel, in which the display panel can be lighted with uniform luminance throughout the whole screen, while securing sufficiently largely the reflection light volume at the depth part separated from the LED without increasing the number of the LEDs. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight device 1 includes: a light guide plate 2 which has an emitting face at the front side 3 thereof and a reflecting face 10 at the back side 4 thereof, and has an incident face at the side end face 5; and a light source 15 which makes light enter from the incident face into the light guide plate.
