<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a performance degradation caused by crystallization of an electrophoretic medium in a plunger pump for filling a capillary with the electrophoretic medium, preferably, to keep a pressure in a cleaning mechanism approximately at an atmospheric pressure, and to enable a user to easily understand a replacement-filling period of a cleaning liquid. <P>SOLUTION: In the cleaning mechanism of the plunger pump for filling the capillary with the electrophoretic medium, a portion is provided, where a liquid level is fluctuated by a quantity of the electrophoretic medium, a quantity of the cleaning liquid, and the pressure in the cleaning mechanism, and the pressure in the cleaning mechanism is kept approximately at the atmospheric pressure. Preferably, an index such as a scale showing the replacement-filling period of the cleaning liquid is provided on the spot where the liquid level is fluctuated, or a display device such as PC showing the replacement-filling period of the cleaning liquid is provided. The performance of the plunger pump for filling the capillary with the electrophoretic medium is thereby maintained.
