An eyesight protection apparatus of a television is provided to automatically turn off a television when watching television within a reasonable distance, thereby protecting eyesight. A viewer sensor(20) senses a viewer within a distance set up from a television(10). A sensing distance setting unit(30) inputs a setting distance that a viewer sensor senses a viewer. A control unit controls a television power supply unit to turn off the television if it is sensed that the viewer is within the set distance.
