PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of sufficiently reducing internal pressure of a crank chamber and reducing friction without increasing the capacity of a scavenge pump. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 10 includes a crankshaft 23 connected to a piston 25 via a connecting rod 24, a closure crank chamber 21 rotatably arranged with the crankshaft 23 and formed independently of an oil pan 17, and the scavenge pump 31 whose suction side is connected to the inside of the closure crank chamber 21 and discharge side is connected to the outside of the closure crank chamber 21. The rotation of the crankshaft 23 and the rotation of the scavenge pump 31 are synchronized so that the suction amount of oil of the scavenge pump 31 reaches a maximum at the bottom dead center position of the piston 25.
