PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new antibacterial agent having high antibacterial activity against various microorganisms. SOLUTION: The antibacterial agent contains fullerene hydroxide expressed by formula (I): C<SB>60</SB>(OH)<SB>n</SB>(in the formula, n is an integer of 30-48, especially preferably an integer of 40-48) as an active component. The antibacterial agent is especially effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), Staphylococcus epidermides, Propionibacterium acnes, Candida and Malassezia.
