<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulse compressor in which the generation of pedestal components accompanied by pulse compression is reduced or suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pulse compressor includes a chirp part 1 including a normal dispersion fiber which provides a positive chirp to an incident pulse, and a dispersion compensation part 2 including an anomalous dispersion fiber. A nonlinear coefficient and an absolute value of a second-order group velocity dispersion of the anomalous dispersion fiber which constitute the dispersion compensation part 2 is set such that a soliton order becomes one or more.
