An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for efficiently operating an engine utilizing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The apparatus (100) includes an exhaust manifold (116) receiving exhaust gas (118) from a first cylinder set (120), an EGR manifold (122) receiving exhaust gas (118) from a second cylinder set (124), and a passage (126) comprising a variable restriction (128). The passage fluidly couples the exhaust manifold to the EGR manifold.
