PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed change operation device and a transmission improved in operation feeling at shift operation. SOLUTION: This speed change operation device has a case 101, a shift select lever 103 stored in the case 101, slidably arranged in the axial direction and rotatably arranged in the circumferential direction, a speed change operating lever 250 for operating the shift select lever 103, a selecting cam 160 fixed to the shift select lever 103 and rotating around the shift select lever 103, a lock ball for pressing the selecting cam 160, and a tapered part formed at an end positioned in the shift displacement direction for displacing the shift select lever 103 in the shift operation among a lock ball pressing surface pressed by the lock ball and inclined so as to approach the shift select lever 103 toward the shift direction.
