PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic backbone-containing alicyclic epoxy compound satisfying both a high refractive index and cationic curing reactivity by one component and promising as a next generation epoxy compound, a method for producing the same, a resin composition constituted by the same compound, and a molded article and an optical member of the same. SOLUTION: This aromatic backbone-containing alicyclic epoxy compound is expressed by general formula (1) [wherein, X is the aromatic backbone; Y is the same or different and an epoxycyclohexane group or an alicyclic hydrocarbon added with the epoxy group directly or through a hydrocarbon; R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>are each the same or different H, a halogen atom, or an alkyl which may have a substituent; (n) is an integer of 0 to 10; and (m) is an integer of ≥1 and is a number of which maximum is determined depending upon the number of bonds of the aromatic ring contained in the X].
