PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system capable of performing high speed reading when connection between a PC (Personal Computer) and an image reading unit is at a low data transfer rate, and allowing the PC and the image reading unit to carry out role allotment of the image processing as usually. SOLUTION: A low-data-amount image data with the data amount less than the one of an image data for storing is created from the image data for storing. The image reading unit gives priority to the low-data-amount image data to transfer to the image processor, in place of the image data for storing. When transfer of the-low-data amount image data is completed, the image processor notifies a user that a reading instruction can be received. Namely, the image processor enables acceptance of the reading instruction from the user and sends out reading instruction corresponding to the reading instruction by the user, when transfer of the low-data-amount image data is completed.
