摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically improve thermal efficiency by eliminating various types of losses in a conventional internal combustion engine, such as pump loss, friction loss, loss caused by irregular combustion and loss caused by crank chamber compression and drive of a Roots blower, and eradicate generation of NOx without using air as working fluid. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine having a poppet valve 22 for controlling flowing and blocking of burnt gas is provided with an oxygen injection valve 29 having an oxygen supply container 15 and injecting oxygen from the oxygen supply container 15 to the burnt gas within a combustion chamber 20 in the vicinity of the compression top dead center and with a fuel injection valve 28 for injecting fuel. At least either one of valve closing timing or valve opening timing of the poppet valve 22 is changed by a variable valve gear 4 in accordance with the operating state of the engine, so as to vary at least either one of an actual compression ratio or an actual expansion ratio.
