PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable construction of a long caisson of an intended size without using a dry dock in view of the fact that the size of the long caisson is limited by the scale of the dry dock or the construction period is prolonged when the dry dock etc. is used for construction of the long caisson. SOLUTION: Unit caissons 5, which are segmented units of the long caisson separated into a plurality of segments, are manufactured on land, and are sequentially loaded on a launching barge 2 using a marine crane after exterior wall concrete is placed. The unit caissons 5 are arranged on the launching barge 2 and are joined together by placing concrete 6 to obtain the long caisson 1. After curing the concrete 6, the launching barge 2 is immersed to allow the long caisson 1 to float on the water surface, so that it may be towed to an intended place of installation.
