PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide respective methods for virus isolation, virus concentration and retrieval, and virus specimen preparation, capable of easily treating many specimens at the same time by a simple means through solving problems on virus concentration method, also easy to be made compatible with automation, and affecting neither immunoassay nor nucleic acid amplification test. SOLUTION: A method for detecting virus is provided, wherein the virus to be detected include hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus and AIDS virus. The method includes the step (a) of bringing a biological specimen containing at least one kind of virus selected from hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus and AIDS virus into contact with a cationic solid phase carrier, bivalent metal ion and a phosphoric acid-based buffer solution to trap the kind(s) of virus on the cationic solid phase carrier's surface, the step (b) of subjecting the resultant cationic solid phase carrier to solid/liquid separation from the liquid specimen, the step (c) of soaking the cationic solid phase carrier in a chelating reagent solution to dissociate the kind(s) of virus from the cationic solid phase carrier, and the step (d) of subjecting the kind(s) of virus to solid/liquid separation to retrieve the objective virus.
