<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic writing tool for reading an image on a medium even in a state where the tool is capped. <P>SOLUTION: A cap part 610 includes a cap body part 611; a clip 612; a filter 614; and a surrounding member 615. The clip 612 includes a facing piece (facing part) 612a oppositely arranged on an outer circumference plane of the body part 611; and an oblique side part 612b disposed to be connected to an end part side of the piece 612a and arranged so as to intersect an arrangement direction of the piece 612a. Further, the clip 612 includes an opening part 612e capable of irradiating an infra-red ray from an infra-red ray LED 63 to a medium and receiving light reflected from the medium by an infra-red ray CMOS 64.
