PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can prevent the image processing time from being prolonged by utilizing a plurality of memories effectively. SOLUTION: An image reader, i.e. a copying machine, has two memories, i.e. a high speed memory 33 and a low speed memory 39. A selecting section 611 selects a memory in which image data read-out is stored. More specifically, the high speed memory 33 is selected for image data which is determined to have a large data size, and the low speed memory 39 is selected for image data which is determined to have a small data size.
