PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of processing for data stream distribution. SOLUTION: A data providing system has a data providing device that distributes streams to which one type of data of various types of voice and moving pictures is inserted to a data receiver for every packet, and the data receiver. An error correction code generator mounted on the data providing device has a means for determining whether or not to generate error correction codes for packet data corresponding to the type of the packet data that are to be transmitted from the data providing device to the data receiver, and a means for generating error correction codes only for data of packets determined that they generate error correction codes and transmitting the generated error correction codes from the data providing device to the data receiver.
