PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoding method and decoding device which decodes an irregular LDPC code with high performance with erroneous correction suppressed. SOLUTION: The decoding method for decoding an irregular LDPC code includes: a step S101 of generating an external value by performing likelihood calculation in a row direction using likelihood information of a transmission line on the basis of an irregular parity check matrix; a step S102 of generating a corrected external value by changing the external value on the basis of row weights of the parity check matrix; a step S103 of generating a prior value by performing likelihood calculation in a column direction using the corrected external value on the basis of the parity check matrix; a step S104 of generating a binary temporarily estimated word; a step S105 of performing parity check of the temporarily estimated value on the basis of the parity check matrix; and a step S106 of determining whether decoding should be repeated.
