PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element emitting light with a higher intensity obtained including an insulating layer between two metal layers, to provide a thermally assisted magnetic head using the light-emitting element with a simpler structure, a head gimbal assembly, and a hard disk device. SOLUTION: The light-emitting element includes a first metal layer 33 including a ferromagnetic metal layer, a second metal layer 37 including a ferromagnetic metal layer, and an insulating layer 35 disposed between the first metal layer 33 and the second metal layer 37 to form a tunnel barrier between the first metal layer 33 and the second metal layer 37. The magnetization direction 33M of the first metal layer 33 and the magnetization direction 37M of the second metal layer 37 are antiparallel to each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
