PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handling method of a methylene lactone compound that removes the discoloration of the methylene lactone compound, improves the lowering of polymerizability and permits stable handling of the compound. SOLUTION: The method for handling the methylene lactone compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>may be the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group) at the time of the manufacture and/or after the manufacture thereof comprises a step of treating the methylene lactone compound with a porous solid.
