PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass body to which a metal foil of gold, silver, copper or the like is welded; and to provide a method for welding a metal foil to a glass body. SOLUTION: The method for welding a metal foil to a glass body comprises: heating the glass body to which the metal foil is stuck to a temperature up to which the glass body stuck with the metal foil can be heated without being broken even if it is rapidly heated and at which the glass body stuck with the metal foil is prevented from being deformed; further rapidly heating the heated glass body to the temperature of the melting point of the metal foil to weld the metal foil to the glass body; then rapidly cooling the glass body to which the metal foil is welded to a prescribed temperature not lower than a gradually cooling temperature; and gradually cooling the glass body to which the metal foil is welded, cooled to the gradually cooling temperature.
