PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire forming device capable of reducing wasteful consumption of electric power for driving rollers, and a holding force control program. SOLUTION: The wire forming machine 10 produces a wire formed article by butting a wire 90 fed by a pair of the rollers 41 and 51 to a forming tool 24 to form the wire into a curved shape. In the method, the holding force Ns for each position reaching the forming tool, of the wire of the development length portion of the wire formed article is controlled to satisfy Ns=kxσxd<SP>3</SP>/(4nμD) when the wire diameter of the wire 90 is defined as d, tensile strength asσ, the coefficient of static friction between the rollers 41 and 51 asμ, a safety factor for preventing the slip with the rollers 41 and 51 as k, the number of the pairs of the rollers 41 and 51 as n, the radius of curvature of each area of the wire formed article as D/2, and the holding force as Ns.
