<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plugged honeycomb structure hardly causing cracks in partition walls during use as a DPF and during regeneration. <P>SOLUTION: The plugged honeycomb structure 40 has gaps 41 opened on an end face 2b side between plugging portions 10 and partition walls 4, the gaps 41 being present only in the vicinity of the end face 2b of the honeycomb structure and not present in inner part since the plugging part is closely attached to the partition wall 4 of the honeycomb structure.
