PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for recognizing an environment, preventing erroneous detection of the environment, and also to provide a robot having the apparatus incorporated. SOLUTION: The robot has: a moving means; a detection unit 18 for detecting a floor around the robot; an environmental map creation module 12 for comparing current detection results detected by the detection unit 18 with previously detected detection results to create or update the environmental map around the mobile object of the robot, based on the detection results when environmental conditions around the robot coincide; and a path planning module for planning a moving path of the moving means referring to the environmental map.
