PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a lightweight thermal insulating clay roof tile by which the tile is made lightweight and thermal insulated by introducing a porus structure in a base while satisfying the quality of JIS A5208, particularly strength specified value (bending rupture load) and coefficient of water absorption and to provide the lightweight thermal insulating clay roof tile. SOLUTION: In a step of preparing a forming body, 0.5-75 wt.% granular powder comprising a fired porous material obtained by firing a porous forming material in which many pores are formed inside by heating, for example. magnesium carbonate, magnesite, dolomite, magnesium hydroxide, zeolite-containing shale or the porous forming material thereof is mixed with a clay roof tile-forming raw material blended soil.
