The apparatus has a continuously variable transmission associated with a vehicular engine having a belt that transmits a revolution of a primary pulley to a secondary pulley making a gear shift by changing a pulley ratio. An output section outputs a signal commanding an engine control unit to increase engine speed by a preset speed when a belt slip determining section determines the occurrence of slip between the pulleys. An independent claim is also included for a control method of an automotive vehicle.
