A solution of a halo-nitrobenzoic acid, or salt, ester, or amide thereof, in an alcohol having 1-3 carbon atoms or in a corresponding ether, is subjected to reduction with hydrogen in the presence of a nickel-alumina catalyst at a pressure between 80 and 120 abs. atm. and temperature between 40 and 150 DEG C. so as to obtain a halo-amino-benzoic acid or a salt, ester, or amide thereof. Examples are given of the preparation of 4-chloro-2-amino-benzoic acid, 2-chloro-4-amino-benzoic acid methyl ester, 2-chloro-4-amino-benzoyl - (b -di - ethyl amino-ethyl)-amido-hydrochloride, 2-bromo-4-amino-benzoic acid ethyl ester, and 2-chloro-4-amino-benzoic acid b -diethyl-amino-ethyl ester hydrochloride. Solvents specified are methanol, ethanol, and di-n-propyl ether. |
