METHOD OF MONITORING CONTROL CHANNEL IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method for reducing battery consumption of a terminal in a wireless communication system is provided to reduce battery consumption of a terminal in E-UTRAN(Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network) system through a control channel monitoring using a DRX(Discontinuous Reception) cycle. A physical downlink control channel(PDCCH) is monitored for a monitoring period. When the physical downlink control channel is successfully decoded for the monitoring period, the physical downlink control channel is monitored for an extended period. The monitoring period is a part of a DRX cycle. The DRX cycle defines a periodic repeat of the monitoring period. A DRX setting is received for a non-monitoring period, and stops monitoring of the physical downlink control channel.
