High pressure lamp with an igniter has a lamp holder (5) with a firing device for igniting the gas discharge in its interior. A discharge vessel (1) along with an electromagnetic screen (91,92) is provided with the lamp assembly with power supply line (6) fed to the lamp holder. Current is fed from the base far end (11) of the discharge vessel which is coupled electrically to electromagnetic screen.
