A method and an apparatus for managing an encoding key by a mobile terminal connected to a smart card are provided to reduce an operating amount for enhancing a processing speed in receiving or deleting a multimedia data by not extracting record key information of all multimedia data stored inside a mobile communication terminal with reference to record key database. An encoded multimedia data provided from a digital multimedia broadcaster is received(S72). Record key information corresponding to an encoding key for decoding the multimedia data is extracted from stream information included in the multimedia data(S74). An apparatus for managing an encoding key determines whether the extracted record key information is pre-stored to the record key information of each pre-stored multimedia data and the record key database which stores identification information of the multimedia data or not(S76). In case the extracted record key information is not pre-stored to the record key database, the record key information and the identification information of the multimedia data are mapped, and the mapped information is stored to the record key database.
