Developed is an improved catalytic process for producing hydrogen from the conversion of methane by using catalysts of the Ni/Cu type operated under a continuous differential regime. Where the reaction is performed at a temperature of 500°C, using a further temperature of 540°C and a final temperature of 580°C, also using a nickel concentration of 9% in the catalyst for each of the aforementioned temperature conditions. The preparation of the Al2O3 and ZnAl2O4 support is made by impregnation. The catalysts of the Ni-Cu type present a higher stability (for more than 3 h of reaction) with regard to the Ni monometallic system. Between said types of catalysts, the one having the better performance (stability and CH4 conversion) was the one supported in MgAl2O4; the results were mainly related to the presence of the Cu0.81Ni0.19 alloy and the simultaneous incorporation of Ni due to the reduction in-situ of the remaining NiO during the reaction.
