PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless receiver which stabilizes the signal level of an intermediate frequency signal quickly and properly. SOLUTION: A comparator 22 detects whether the signal level of a received RF signal is within a prescribed range to be attenuated, and outputs a COMP signal. A control circuit 40 temporarily determines attenuation of the RF signal by a variable attenuator 24 in a first clock when the COMP signal becomes "H". When the attenuation is temporarily determined, if the COMP signal is "L" in a second clock consecutive to the first clock, the control circuit 40 holds an RF-ATT signal at "L", and disables the attenuator 24. Meanwhile, if the COMP signal is still "H" in the second clock consecutive to the first clock, the control circuit 40 determines that the signal level of the RF signal is comparatively large, holds the RF-ATT signal at "H", and enables the attenuator 24.
