PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mesoporous carbon having a controlled specific surface area, specific pore volume and pore diameter and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the mesoporous carbon comprises a step of mixing mesoporous silica produced by a high-temperature microwave method and having a space group of Ia3d, sucrose and water, a step of heating and polymerizing a mixture obtained by the mixing step, a step of heating and carbonizing a polymer obtained by the polymerization step, and a step of removing the residual mesoporous silica from a carbonized material obtained by the carbonization step.
