A high capacity geophone digital system (figures 1 and 2) capable of distributing seismic data over a computer network (18) connection in a real time manner. Each geophone (10) can convert seismic energy signals to analog (22) then digital data (30) before forwarding the observed data to a network connection f dissemination. Moreover, each geophone (10) may be embedded with a processing capability that allows instant front end processing of data. Remote processing computers (20) can then access geophone data ov the network connection and feed it into software analysis applications.
