The invention concerns a method for playing an advertisement as ring-back tone. First, an incoming call from a caller is detected. Next is checked whether a unique identification code, which is representative for the caller, is registered in a first database(11). If this is the case, an advertisement reference linked to the unique identification code is read from the first database (11). Based on the advertisement reference,the advertisement is retrieve din a second database (12).Next, the advertisement is played on the sound device (13),wherein the advertisement is sent to the caller as ring-back tone. Finally, the actual play duration of the played advertisement is registered. If the caller is not registered in the first database(11), a telephone connection with a receiver, for which the incoming call was intended, is enabled.
