<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas, which is produced by layering a HC adsorption layer 2 and catalyst layers 3a, 3b for removing the HC desorbed from the HC adsorption layer 2 in this order on a honeycomb carrier 1 and in which the HC adsorption efficiency of the HC adsorption layer 2 is increased. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst layers 3a, 3b are formed discontinuously in the flow direction of the exhaust gas so that a concave part 4 can be formed on the wall surface of a cell passage of the honeycomb carrier 1 in the middle position of the flow direction of the exhaust gas.
