PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a jam caused by taking in a thin medium below detailed specifications by preventing taking-in of the thin medium below the detailed specifications. SOLUTION: Turnable gates 4 and 5, and gate detection sensors 8 and 9 are provided on both sides of a medium conveyance path 3 near a medium insertion slot 1, coil springs 6 and 7 energize the respective gates 4 and 5 so as to make the medium conveyance path 3 narrow, spring force of the coil springs 6 and 7 is set to strength so as not to make the gates 4 and 5 turn when the gates 4 and 5 are pushed by a thin medium below the detailed specifications of the device, and the medium is taken in when the gate detection sensors 8 and 9 detect the gates 4 and 5 which are turned by being pushed by the medium of specification.
