PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutane of high purity in a high yield. SOLUTION: The production method of 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutane comprises causing cumene and an organic peroxide as starting raw materials to react by thermal decomposition of the organic peroxide. In this case, a peroxymonocarbonate is used as the organic peroxide. The peroxymonocarbonate is preferably t-butylperoxyalkyl monocarbonate (provided that the carbon number of the alkyl group is 3-8) and most preferably t-butylperoxyisopropyl monocarbonate. Preferably, the peroxymonocarbonate is one having a 1-hour half-life temperature of 105-125°C. The temperature for thermal decomposition of the peroxymonocarbonate is preferably 125-145°C.
