The device has a storage container (1) provided for metal chips (11). A preforming chamber (3) is provided downstream to the storage container for preforming the chips. A press chamber is provided downstream to the preforming chamber for pressing of the preformed metal chips in a metal briquette (12). A paddle wheel (4) is provided for supplying the chips in the preforming chamber and local performing of the chips. The wheel has a horizontal axis of rotation such that the chips to be performed are horizontally supplied to the wheel and the preforming chamber is found under the wheel.
