<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly secure and adjust the backlash of a bevel gear and maintain the appropriate backlash independent of whether the bevel gear rotates in the normal or reverse direction and of the magnitude of a load. <P>SOLUTION: This power transmission device 56 is provided for supporting a hypoid gear (the bevel gear) 50 via a bearing BL. The bearing BL is formed as a structure capable of supporting a thrust load in both directions without play by a roller (a rolling element 58).
