PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device for suppressing the reduction of luminance. SOLUTION: An illumination means has: a first illumination part for emitting light in a first direction; and a second illumination part for emitting light in a second direction. A control means has: a time sharing writing part for setting a first subframe period and a second subframe period in one frame period and setting a first period, a second period and a third period in each of the first and second subframe periods to write a video signal corresponding to the first direction in the first and second periods of the first subframe period write a black image signal in the third period, write a video signal corresponding to the second direction in the first and second periods in the second subframe period, and write a signal corresponding to the black image in the third period; and an illumination means control part for turning on the first illumination part in the first subframe period and turning on the second illumination part in the second subframe period.
