PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated steel material which has a coating film on the surface of a steel material, is non-chrome and friendly to the environment and combines excellent corrosion-resistant performance and bendability. SOLUTION: The coated steel material has a coating film on the surface of a steel material through a practically non-chrome inorganic film containing 5-100 mg/m<SP>2</SP>based on the silicon content, of a silicon compound and 30 wt.% or less of an inorganic binder. Though being so-called non-chrome, or containing practically no hexa- or tri-valent chromium, it has excellent corrosion-resistant performance and, additionally, excellent bendability.
