<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter circuit that obtains high power factor and generates less high-frequency noises and a discharge tube lighting device using the inverter circuit. <P>SOLUTION: The inverter circuit comprises: a rectifier circuit 22b connected to a commercial AC power source 22a; a switching circuit 23 for obtaining a high-frequency AC power supply based on a ripple flow output of the rectifier circuit 22b; a main transformer 24 for stepping up the high-frequency AC power supply; and a switching circuit 26, which breaks the ripple flow output of the rectifier circuit 22b when a voltage of the ripple flow output of the rectifier circuit 22b exceeds a reference voltage and which supplies the ripple flow output of the rectifier circuit 22b to the switching circuit 23 when the voltage of the ripple flow output of the rectifier circuit 22b decreases to the reference voltage or lower.
