PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cation exchange membrane used for producing edible salt, improving concentrating performance without increasing electric resistance as compared with those of conventionally used membranes. SOLUTION: This cation exchange membrane is characterized by filling a copolymer having at least styrene and divinylbenzene as copolymerization components into the pores of a porous substrate material consisting of a polyolefin, irradiating an ionizing radiation, and then introducing a sulfonic acid group. The cation exchange membrane is also characterized by filling a polymerizable mixture containing at least the styrene having a functional group capable of introducing a sulfonic acid group and divinylbenzene into the above pores, performing thermal polymerization, irradiating the ionizing radiation, and then introducing the sulfonic acid group.
